Welcome to Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer Fire Department:

The Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer Fire Department is a non-profit volunteer organization, organized in 1966; we have proudly provided fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, and first-responder services to over 40 square miles of Bexar County for more than 40 years.

Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer Fire Department's call volume is constantly growing and we are always looking for new applicants that are interested in serving the community and furthering themselves in a proactive environment. The department has over 100 active volunteer firefighters plus reserve firefighters, trainees, and junior members. The department also has a limited number of paid staff. These individuals are utilized during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as three firefighters who rotate 24 hour shifts every third day, to make rapid and timely service available while most volunteer members are at work.

BBVFD is continually working to decrease the ISO rating of the district; this rating helps to lower the homeowner's insurance premiums. Working with the lowest ESD tax in the county at 3% our current rating is a 4, this is just one point above San Antonio FD. With the purchase of our new station, multiple apparatus and plans for more the ISO rating will continue to drop.

Our members advance their knowledge through weekly trainings and specially coordinated events with local departments. Weekly Trainings are held at Station 104 every Thursday night from 7:00pm-9:00pm. A training schedule can be found on the BBVFD Yahoo Groups, as well as information on specialty trainings. First time volunteers should come early to fill out a membership application.
